EQUIPMENT

KAYAKING

Please come with your normal white water kayaking equipment.  If you are unsure of what to bring, please get in touch and we can advise.  We don't normally hire out equipment, but if you are stuck, get in touch as we may be able to help.

SUMMER MOUNTAINEERING

We will provide all the technical equipment, such as ropes and rack, required for each course.  You are welcome to use your own personal technical equipment, such as helmet and harness, as long as we deem it fit.  

  • Rucksack - about 40 litres

  • Boots (with ankle support and grippy soles)

  • Walking poles

  • Thick and ankle covering walking socks

  • Waterproof jacket (with hood)

  • Waterproof over trousers

  • Gaiters

  • Walking trousers (not jeans or cotton material)

  • Thermal top + fleece top

  • Spare layer e.g. synthetic insulated jacket

  • Warm hat and gloves

  • Compass, whistle, watch, headtorch, buff

  • Waterproof maps (we will provide)

  • Food & Drink

  • Personal First Aid Kit (small) and personal medicine

  • Sunglasses

  • Sun cream

  • Small bottle of hand sanitiser and a face mask/ buff

  • Sunglasses, Sun Hat and Sun cream (if sunny)

  • Midge net and Smidge (June - Aug)

  • Helmet and Harness (scrambling and rock climbing courses)

  • Rock climbing shoes (rock climbing course)

WINTER WALKING

We will provide you with an ice axe, crampons, maps and a helmet as part of the course cost.  You are welcome to use your own as long as we deem it suitable.​

  • Rucksack 35 - 45 litres

  • B2 or B3 boots - capable of fitting a crampon (see kit hire below)

  • Walking poles

  • Thick, long walking socks

  • Waterproof jacket (Gortex or Paramo with hood) 

  • Waterproof over trousers

  • Walking trousers (not jeans or cotton material)

  • Thermal top + fleece top

  • Spare layer e.g. synthetic insulated jacket

  • 2 x warm hats

  • 2 or 3 x waterproof gloves

  • Buff

  • Gaiters

  • Ski goggles (clear lens is best for protection in high winds and snow)

  • Compass

  • Whistle

  • Watch

  • Headtorch

  • Food & Drink (lots of)

  • Hot thermos flask

  • Personal First Aid Kit (small) and personal medicine

  • Sunglasses, Sun cream

  • Small bottle of hand sanitiser and a face mask/ buff

WINTER EQUIPMENT HIRE

It is possible to hire boots, transceiver, shovel and probes from Tiso, Elis Brigham and Cairngorm Mountain Sport in Aviemore.  Kit should be collected before the course start time so we can hit the ground running.
